Digital UK, through the assistant regional manager for the region Mr. Bill Haworth says the much awaited dawn of digital TV will finally come to pass. All analogue TV channels after 21st of September 2011 will be switched off completely hence no signals will be received. The process of switching off is very simple and any TV set, whether modern or old can be easily converted without having to purchase a new one to conform to the new changes.
If you have bought a TV set recently, you will not have to worry a lot as it comes with a built-in digital converter. However, old TV sets would need to have a converter on the side so they can start receiving digital signals after the slated date of September. Mr. Haworth is however quick to note that most people residing in the West Yorkshire region are more than ready for the switchover. He notes that nearly all households in the area have at least a TV set that is already converted to start getting digital signals.
The digital switchover is spearheaded by industry giants digital UK, and they plan to do the switchover in two separate stages. The first one is slated for 7th September where BBC Two is expected to go fully digital after the exercise, which will then be followed closely by the remaining four analogue channels. When the exercise is complete, after the 21st of September all the channels would have permanently switched off. Needless to mention therefore, if you would not have converted by then you will not get any signals or watch any programs on your TV.
While most Freeview digital channels are currently in operation, they are not without their share of "black spots", such as Halifax where the digital signals are reported not to reach many households. It is therefore expected that the Freeview digital service will be improved significantly in the region once the changes are effected and all analogue stations are switched off completely.
If you currently get your TV signals via a Freeview box or through an external TV aerial, you will have to re-tune your TV set both on the 7th and 21st of September. The tuning process isn't difficult and there is enough information available on how to go about it. Those on cable or satellite however will not need to re-tune their TV sets since the digital signals are already coming through.
