What Is The Future of Cable Television Industry?

By William Baretta

If anybody tries to tell you what the cable TV industry will look like in 10 to 20 years, at the very best they would only be making an educated guess. The fact of the matter is, not even the highly paid executives that run these companies know what is going to happen.

One thing is certain though, they are the professionals who make decisions for cable TV providers are concerned about the impact the Internet will have on their income once your speed is much greater. It's a little ironic too, since the internet is one of their main sources of income as well.

When the cable television firms where first starting out in business and were investing in their cables and other infrastructure, the internet had not even been invented yet. At the time, they thought their only source of revenue would be selling cable TV subscriptions.

Now these same companies make a lot of money providing Internet access, which could one day put his side the cable television business, the business altogether. What these companies are so concerned, is that more people than ever spend time on the Internet and not in front of their televisions.

They also believe that this trend will not ever go back to where it was before, but only substantially increase once the Internet improves speed considerably. Just a few years ago sites like YouTube have created, allowing people to upload videos that they generate online. These types of websites are very popular right now, and are visited regularly by millions of people every day.

Now there are all kinds of websites where you can watch movies or TV in them. Fortunately for cable TV providers, the speed of the current Internet does not allow the end user has the same experience as they watch a television program is transmitted through a cable connected to your home. However, a day in the future is going to happen, and when it does, who knows how many subscribers are off their cable television.

The Internet is changing the world, and someday soon, it could certainly change the way you carry all your home entertainment. The cable TV providers are well aware of this, and I wish there was something I could do to stop the evolution.
